We
honor our Mexican roots and
Alaska
, the place where our children are born or raised.
Nosotros
honramos nuestras raices mexicans y Alaska, el lugar donde
la mayoría de nuestros niños han nacido o crecido.
Nuestro
nombre viene de dos culturas:
Mexicana y Athabasca.
Xochiquetzal
quiere decir "Flor-Pluma" en el idioma
Nahuatl -idioma que hablaban los Aztecas y otros
grupos indigenas mexicanos.
"Tiqun" quiere decir lobo en el idioma
Atabasco Dena'ina que es el idioma que hablan los
habitantes originales en esta región de Alaska.

Our
name comes from two cultures:
Mexican and Athabascan.
Xochiquetzal
means “Flower Feather” in the Nahuatl language
spoken by the Aztecs and other native mexican groups. Tiqun
means “Wolf” in the Athabascan Dena’ina language
spoken by original inhabitants of this region in
Alaska. |

Together our
cultures represent the meeting of artistic inspiration
and human strenght. |
We are based in Anchorage, Alaska. We got together in
2002 in an effort to honor and preserve our Mexican roots as
well as to honor Alaska the place that opened its arms to us
and where most of our children were born or raised.
Our group is represented by Xochiquetzal, (Flower Feather)
Aztec goddess of the flowers, the songs, and the arts.
and Tiqun, which means "wolf" in the Athabascan
Denaina language. The Athabascans are the original natives
of this region of Alaska.
Estamos en Anchorage, Alaska.
Nos reunimos en el año 2002 en un esfuerzo de preservar
nuestras raices mexicanas así como honrar Alaska, el lugar
que nos abrió los brazos y donde la mayoría de
nuestros niños han nacido o crecido.
Nuestro grupo está
representado por Xochiquetzal, que significa "flor-pluma"
la diosa Azteca de las flores, las plumas, las
canciones, las mujeres, el nacimiento, el amor y las artes, y
Tiqun, que significa "lobo" en
el idioma Atabasco Dena'ina. Los Atabascos, fueron los
nativos originales de esta región of Alaska.

Mission
|
|
Our mission is to work for peace
through cultural promotion and understanding. We believe that most
people in the world independently of their culture, religion, or
political beliefs, have similar values which include love of family
and country, honesty, fairness and equality, respect and freedom. If
we believe that these core values exist in most cultures in the world,
then people on earth have more similarities than differences. That is
why Xochiquetzal-Tiqun’s mission is to celebrate ALL cultures in the
world with an emphasis in the Mexican culture, so that by knowing each
other’s cultures better we may have a hope for peace.
Nuestra
misión es trabajar por la paz a través de la promoción cultural y
la comprensión. Creemos que la mayoría de la gente en el mundo,
independientemente de cultura, religión o afiliación política,
tenemos valores similares que incluyen el amor por la familia y el
pais, honestidad, justicia e igualidad, respeto y libertad. Si creemos
que estos valores básicos existen en la mayoría de las culturas del
mundo, entonces la gente de la tierra tenemos mas similaridades que
diferencias. Por eso es que la misión de Xochiquetzal-Tiqun es
celebrar TODAS las culturas del mundo con énfasis en la cultura
Mexicana, para que conociendo mejor nuestra cultura y otras culturas
podamos tener una esperanza de paz.

"Tiqun"
significa "Lobo" en el idioma Atabasco-Denaina de Alaska. El lobo es
un símbolo de fortaleza y calor.
"Tiqun"
means Wolf in the Athabascan Dena'ina
language. The wolf is a symbol of strenght and warmth.(2)gs
and music, culture, and all arts. |
